Victoria season 3 renewal: Will it happen on ITV?
For the time being, it does feel fairly likely that the Daisy Goodwin series, which stars Jenna Coleman as the title monarch, is going to be coming back for another batch of episodes over on ITV. This is a show that delivers solid ratings for the network and beyond that, plenty of international success. Queen Victoria has the global marketability that many other British series do not; even if she may not be as beloved in other parts of the world there is a familiarity there and one of the challenges many British shows run into is possessing the ability to convince viewers in other parts of the world that they should give some of their programs a shot. Unless there is a way to get people on board based on the concept or a character it’s close to impossible — that’s why many of the most-popular franchises these days are ones like Doctor Who or Sherlock, which feature someone recognizable to global audiences.
Hopefully ITV will issue a Victoria season 3 decision in the weeks and months ahead — for now, you can rest knowing that there is one more episode coming in the near future. For the first time there is a Victoria Christmas Special airing on ITV later this year. While it may seem somewhat odd at first glance to order a holiday special based on historical events (typically these specials are fictionalized and all frilled-up in celebration of the holidays), Albert in particular was a lover of Christmas. Imagine how beautiful the show can make a Christmas Special! They do a stunning job visually the vast majority of time to begin with that this should serve as the perfect icing on the cake.
This Christmas Special will be the last episode for at least a while. It is possible that eventually Victoria takes a page from another series about royalty in The Crown and opts to recast its main character, knowing that they will need to be aged up. However, we don’t think that we are there yet. It makes sense to try to keep Coleman in the role for as long as you can provided her level of performance and her ability to sell the show. Bringing in a new star means yet another promotional campaign, and the prices that come with doing this can ultimately add up.
