Arrow season 6 episode 2 video: Oliver gives a surprising shoutout
In the sneak peek below, Oliver conjures up the name of Batman’s famed alter ego in the midst of a press conference with reporters, one where he details some of the reasons why the latest Oliver Queen-is-the-Green Arrow theory is false. His argument is a simple one: Photoshop is a thing, and it is very well possible that anyone could be under that hood. That includes Bruce Wayne. He also makes it clear that with everything he has going on it’s basically impossible for him to be the Green Arrow, and logically that is probably pretty close to the truth.
So if we were to get super-meta about this sneak peek, we would of course wonder if this means that The CW is getting ready to introduce more Batman characters into its DC Universe, or if Gotham is somehow going to get thrown in here someday in the event it gets canceled over at Fox. In the end we doubt that either one of these things are true, and this is probably just a fun little call-out to Batman and a reminder that many people often do associate the Greg Berlanti version of Oliver Queen as being very similar to Bruce/Batman. This also isn’t the first time Bruce’s name has been either mentioned or seen across the Arrow-verse, as it’s shown up here and there in the past. This is just the most overt inclusion of it.
Now that we have said all of this we should note that we wouldn’t be angry in the event that The CW ever decided that it wanted to introduce a Berlanti Batman series, just because the movies out there seem to be stalling (at least for the Ben Affleck version) and we’ve enjoyed these shows more than most superhero movies so far. As of right now we’d say that three out of the four shows are firing on all cylinders. (Supergirl is still struggling with what to do with some of its characters and really needs for this Reign story to deliver.)
Ultimately, don’t make a mountain out of a molehill with the Bruce Wayne mention beyond this preview. Of course if anything is ever announced with a Batman series we’d be all over it here at CarterMatt, but we doubt it. The CW barely has enough room for new programming as it is with the billion or so different shows that it is squeezing into ten hours a week.
