Peter Kraus rejected The Bachelor — and finally explains why

Peter Kraus

When Peter Kraus was not named the star of The Bachelor earlier this year there were many questions out there as to why. He was the obvious fan favorite, he would’ve generated huge viewership for ABC, and all signs pointed towards him eventually getting the gig.

So … what happened? Well, Peter happened. He is the one who had final say on his participation in the show, and he is the one who decided not to do it for a variety of reasons. From the start, he admits that he was resistant to the gig. He explained as much recently to Us Weekly:

“It was just a loose conversation of, ‘Is this something you have ever thought about, something you would do?’ I was so distraught at that time that it was something that I could never see myself doing.”

One of the main storylines for Peter on The Bachelorette this past season was his reluctance to propose to Rachel Lindsay, and that is something that he also confirmed further in discussing his future in relation to the franchise:

“As far as proposal, yeah I’m worried that at the end of it I wouldn’t necessarily be able to, but it’s not that I don’t want to … This is kind of part of my thought process, if i did get to the end and I do really, truly like somebody but for some reason I can’t just say this is for sure that person, I don’t want it to be the same outcome again. People are forgiving once. I don’t know if they’re forgiving twice.”

If Peter is asked as this point next year to be The Bachelor, we easily could see him saying yes. It may be frustrating for many fans out there that he doesn’t have the gig this year but it may ultimately be for the best. This should allow him an opportunity for him to be able to settle into real life and figure out what it looks like before diving into the franchise next year if he wants to. It’s also possible that he ends up finding someone along the way given that we don’t quite think of him as the sort of person who will do The Bachelor just for the sake of fame — he wants a life partner, and he may be able to find that without the show’s help. (After all, we do think that there are going to be a billion or so people out there who are going to be interested in being with him in the event he’s interested back.)

At the moment Arie Luyendyk Jr. is busy filming his season of The Bachelor, and if you head over to the link here you can read more news about his season here at CarterMatt.
