Prepare for Arie Luyendyk Jr.’s Bachelor season by watching Emily Maynard’s Bachelorette now

Arie Luyendyk Jr.'s Bachelor

There was one question that reverberated across the internet after Arie Luyendyk Jr.’s Bachelor announcement from many: Who? While we do remember Emily Maynard’s season of The Bachelorette rather fondly (It was one of the better seasons of the show we’ve seen in a long time), at the same time we also recognize that there are many out there who have never seen it. This season was on before tweeting about the franchise was anywhere near what it is now — to think, there was a world where contestants went on the show and didn’t immediately start selling stupid gift-boxes of stuff online weeks later.

Now, there is a way in which you can catch up on Arie’s first go-around with the franchise rather quickly. In a post on Twitter ABC executive Robert Mills confirmed that the entire Bachelorette season featuring Emily is now online. (It can be watched by clicking the link in the Twitter below.)

If you read on, fair warning that we’re going to spoil a season that is many years old.

Arie made it all the way to the final two on that season, losing in the race for Emily’s heart to Jef Holm. Jef and Emily were engaged for a while before they split; she has since moved on and married Tyler Johnson. The two are currently expecting their third child as a couple. (Emily also has her daughter Ricki from her relationship with Ricky Hendrick, which was a part of her story on Brad Womack’s season of The Bachelor.)

At the time that Arie’s first season of the show aired he was pretty popular; it’s possible that he could’ve ended up being the top Bachelor contender on many other seasons. The biggest thing that was going against him this time around was the unfortunate fact that he just so happened to be on a season that also featured Sean Lowe. He was the universal favorite to be the Bachelor and he’s gone on to be arguably the best one in the history of the show. Not only did he find love with Catherine Giudici, but the two are married and have a family. They’re the most successful couple in the history of the male-fronted side of the franchise, at least in terms of a couple who got engaged at the end of taping.

Who knows? Maybe watching Emily’s season will give some people out there more of an appreciation for what Arie brought to the table. Or, maybe you will just continue to be angry that Peter Kraus didn’t get the gig instead. It’s pretty hard to gauge Bachelor Nation sometimes; we’ve learned that from covering the show at CarterMatt for years now.
