Mayans MC spoilers: Law & Order: SVU alum Danny Pino on board new pilot

Danny Pino

For those of you who have been missing Danny Pino on TV, this may be welcome news– he’ll be joining the new Mayans MC pilot!

According to a new report coming in from TVLine, the actor, who also appeared in Cold Case and the short-lived BrainDead, is going to be appearing as Miguel, a character who is the son of Jose Galindo. He hs is a character described by the site as having “wit, charm and an Ivy League education, he navigates both sides of the border as effortlessly as he juggles his professional and family life. Having mastered success in both legitimate enterprises as well as the family business.”

Pino’s character is one of the new ones added to the show for the second version of its pilot — we also recently reported that True Detective alum Michael Irby is also going to be a new addition to the series in the part of Bishop. These characters will help to round out the cast and offer up a little more in the way of depth to this world. There are some other recastings that are coming for the series, but at present both JD Pardo and Edward James Olmos are slated to remain on board the series in the same roles that they once had. There will be a little bit that the new pilot has in common with the old one, and the primary purpose of some of these moves is simply as a means to refresh things and make sure that the story is as perfect as it can possibly be.

After all, the big thing to remember is that this is a spin-off to Sons of Anarchy, one of the most popular cable shows of the past twenty years. If you are going to make this show and bring it into the world, you have to make sure that it’s done pretty close to perfect. If you do anything less than that at all, you run the risk of being universally panned to the point where nobody wants to take it seriously. That’s a very difficult place to be, since we’re in an era where people are unfortunately very cynical and looking for a mistake to point out everywhere.

In the event that Mayans MC is picked up, all signs point towards it airing on the network at some point next year. It’s possible there could be more delays, so don’t quite consider this to be a guarantee.
