Mayans MC spoilers: True Detective alum joins Sons of Anarchy spin-off

Mayans MCWe’re still eagerly awaiting more news on the Sons of Anarchy spin-off Mayans MCbut at the same time we need patience. At this point, it should be clear to almost everyone that this process is going to take some time in order for everything to come together. There is a new pilot being shot in order to make the Kurt Sutter – Elgin James produced series as strong as possible. Today, what we’re learning is that there are many new characters being added to the mix who weren’t there for the first go-around.

One of these said characters is Michael Irby of True Detective and The Unit. According to a report coming in from TVLine, Irby is going to appear in the major role of Obispo “Bishop” Losa, President of Mayans MC’s Santo Padre Charter. This is someone described by the aforementioned site as follows:

“From a broken home in the Salton Sea, Bishop was taken in by the family of his cousin, Marcus Alvarez, Mayan MC founder and National President. After a tour of duty in Iraq and one in Pelican Bay, Bishop was sent by Alvarez to set up and run the critical Mexi-Cali border charter. He is as deadly as he is loyal.”

Alvarez is a character fans of the original Sons of Anarchy should be more than familiar with, and we do continue to feel like if this show comes to fruition, some more familiar faces are going to turn up at one point or another.

For those who are unaware, the Salton Sea region is a very intriguing part of California, one where culture often meats decay, high heat, and in some cases even ghost stories. We’ve got a really good story on it over at the link here, and we do think that it will create a really cool backdrop for Sutter, James, and the rest of the team to work in.

Hopefully, Mayans MC will get the green light and debut on FX at some point in the coming year. It’s a little too early to tell one way or another, but the thing that we hold firm to is the idea that good things do take time to come to fruition. Hopefully, they’ll get everything perfect in this iteration and FX will feel good enough about this to give us a chance to check it out. As we find out more about the state of the new pilot, of course we’ll unleash more news here at CarterMatt.
