NCIS season 15 spoilers: Maria Bello on Gibbs – Jack Sloane relationship

Jack Sloane

NCIS season 15 will be getting a major dose of something new tonight courtesy of Maria Bello and her character Jack Sloane. She’s been discussed and teased for some time, but in “Skeleton Crew” the forensic psychologist will finally make her debut. You’ll understand how she ended up coming on board the team and what she brings to the table, but you’ll also see her go back and forth with Agent Gibbs (Mark Harmon) in a way we don’t often seen. Part of the problem that Gibbs could run into here is that technically, he doesn’t have any real jurisdiction over her. They are on a relatively level playing field.

This is a sentiment that Bello describes more in previewing this new installment in an interview with TVInsider:

“There’s definitely an immediate working connection between them. He’s not her boss. So the playing field is level and they work well together and respect each other. They’re equals. The writers didn’t create this character as a foil for Gibbs. They didn’t just throw her in because they wanted him to have fights with someone.”

Maria is going to be turning up on the show in a rather humorous scene, one that you can watch over here. It’s through that you will be able to see that Sloane actually may be able to disarm Gibbs in a way that few others have over the years. There is some humor and charm to that — we’re sure that it will also inspire some more conversation as to whether or not there could be a love connection there, but there’s probably not going to be anything definitive on that front for some time. We also have to see the full episode play out before we really start to dive deep into some of that speculation.

Our feeling towards Jack Sloane at the moment is simply this: So long as you love interesting, complex characters who bring something different to the table you’ll probably really like her. NCIS needed a new female cast member to challenge Gibbs ever since the departure of Jennifer Esposito, and we feel rather lucky that the producers were able to court someone of Bello’s caliber onto the program. We at CarterMatt loved her work in Prime Suspect, and her movie career, including A History of Violence, is very much impressive in its own right. There are a lot of great things to celebrate about the work she’s done and, therein, the work that she will probably do here. She will be a series regular for at least the rest of the season.
