NCIS: Los Angeles season 9 episode 3: Mosley pressures Deeks

On NCIS: Los Angeles season 9 episode 3 Sunday night, you’re going to see more questions come in the direction of Marty Deeks. One of the biggest ones is fairly simple: Is Shay Mosley ever going to get off his back? The new boss of the team (at least until Hetty resurfaces) has had some trouble as of late trying to figure out Deeks’ role — including whether or not she wants him there.

During the premiere episode of the show, her biggest problem with Deeks seemed to be that he was a part of the LAPD rather than NCIS proper. Following that, her biggest problem in this episode seems to be his appearance. She comes down on him over it in the sneak peek below, one where he tries to excuse the scruffy look by saying that it was a part of an undercover case. This is a pretty funny preview in between Deeks backpedaling her and then also him reciting back the entire NCIS mission statement to her when she asks why he wants to be a part of the group.

What’s also rather interesting is that Mosley’s sentiments towards Deeks and Kensi being together really don’t feel like anywhere near as big of a deal as how she feels about Deeks not really being with NCIS. Is she ever going to let this go? We feel like in time she’ll earn his trust; while we know that many people out there are frustrated with Mosley in the first place for questioning Deeks in the first place, she’s doing her job. It’d actually feel somewhat irresponsible if she didn’t try to assess whether or not he was good at his job.

In general, we do think Mosley is effective in the purpose that she’s serving: Causing a little bit of internal conflict and causing the team to take a look at themselves. She brings an outsider’s point of view, and this far into the show’s run that is needed every now and then. Of course with all of this said, we do still hope that Hetty does come back sooner rather than later — it just won’t be in this episode given that it was originally supposed to air before last week’s. (The order was switched after the horrific attacks in Las Vegas.)
