The X-Files season 11 spoilers: Is Robert Patrick returning as Doggett!

Robert Patrick returning

For everyone out there who loves Robert Patrick and his role Doggett on The X-Filesyou’re probably hoping that this turns out to be very good news.

According to a new report coming in via TVLine, all parties involved are looking to get Patrick on board for one episode this season, even if it’s not a meaty role that lasts longer than an episode. Series creator Chris Carter confirms this, while also noting that his work on Scorpion, which films in Los Angeles while the science fiction show films in Vancouver, is in part one of the reasons why this is such a challenge:

“I actually wrote him into an episode. But then I found out he wasn’t going to be available to us [because of Scorpion] so I had to write him out of the episode… Scorpion is his first priority … That’s not to say you won’t see him this season…”

Patrick also noted to the site that he is “game” to make a return as his character, who he played near the end of the show’s original run. We do think that the stars will somehow aligned and Patrick will be able to turn up; without him it’d be a shame, given that you’re talking about an industry icon (especially in the science fiction genre) who brings a lot to the table of everything that he does. We do know that Scorpion needs him, but with this show producing so many episodes a season we hope that there is one that requires either a little less Cabe or for him to have a few days off so that he can go over and do this show before coming back for more.

We know that The X-Files is going to be chock full of familiar faces when it does return in the new year. After all, it’s been confirmed already that Annabeth Gish is going to be returning in her role as Monica Reyes, and judging from the recent trailer there are poised to be some other reprisals where that comes from. This is a show that really does feel and understand the pressure of trying to live up to its sterling reputation as one of the greatest science fiction series of all time. We do think that it should be able to pull it off, but time will tell if that happens. (After all, we didn’t love the start and end of the tenth season nearly as much as we wanted to.)
