The Outlander season 3 Print Shop scene a.k.a. passion in ‘clumsiness’
Can it be passionate and also clumsy? That’s a subject that’s worth talking about a little more through the lens of what Caitriona Balfe (who plays Claire) had to say on the subject as a part of a new TV Guide piece:
“It’s much more interesting that it’s kind of awkward, kind of clumsy and kind of sweet … It’s like they’re two teenagers seeing each other again and that was a really interesting flip for people that had aged so much since the last time they’d seen each other.”
We do think that there’s almost something more passionate, counter-intuitive as it may sound, about a Print Shop scene where not everything goes according to plan. This makes the moment all the more real, given that in real life, this is precisely the sort of thing that can happen. You may have a memory of what time together was like, but that memory is a couple of decades old. It’s possible that some of that was distorted over time, just like it’s also possible that some preferences and feelings change as a result of how long it’s been. The two are going to have to get accustomed to that. It’s almost like revisiting an old neighborhood after two decades and expecting all of the same neighbors and the same restaurants to be where they once were. Things change, and you have to be prepared for that. There’s also going to be a few clumsy moments here and there where you show up at an old hang only to realize that it’s been turned into a yoga studio.
No matter what the end result of the Print Shop scene is, Starz is clearly happy enough about it to make the upcoming “A. Malcolm” the longest episode of the season to date. You’re going to have plenty of opportunities to see what Jamie and Claire’s new life will be like, but also some stumbling blocks along the way. (Some of these said stumbling blocks are going to be completely unrelated to the two of them and will focus instead on some other things.)
What are your expectations now for the Outlander season 3 Print Shop scene?

If you missed it, we also shared recently a piece that is all about the hiatus, and to be specific, why it may not be so bad having to wait a little bit longer for the next episode from a ratings point of view. I know it will be exciting, an Jamie will be totally shaking in his boots, to say he is stunned about Claire be real will be an understatement . I can’t wait to see his reaction to the Pictures of Bree.Sam is acting his A** off!!

The thing I hope they show is Jamie’s overwhelm. Claire’s had time to think about seeing Jamie again. Jamie has no idea she’s on her way back to him. As we saw in the last episode, he was so shocked he fainted. I don’t want him to move directly from that shock to acceptance. I hope the writers, directors, and Sam Heughan will allow us to see Jamie being completely bowled over by what is happening to him before he gradually moves to acceptance because this is what seems appropriate. Given that this is an extra long episode, I hope they spend a little time on this.

The print shop is going to be great, but I also can’t wait for Turtle soup.
