The Blacklist season 5 episode 4 preview: The latest James Spader story

What happens when you give James Spader’s Reddington an opportunity? The Blacklist season 5 episode 4 could provide answers on that one (although you might have some ideas of your own already). At his core we do know that Reddington is the sort of person who has always been opportunistic. If you give him a chance to take a leap forward, (especially in terms of his criminal enterprise) he’s going to jump at that chance. This is something that he will be even more willing to bite at (and understandably so) when he’s short on cash like he has been this season. Through the first three episodes of the season, Reddington is not doing enough just yet to turn his financial misfortunes around. He is going to need some help, and this is where the story of “The Endling” comes about.

Before we dive any deeper, let’s go ahead now and share some more of the latest insight on the story ahead via NBC.

The Blacklist season 5 episode 4 synopsis – “Liz (Megan Boone) and the Task Force hunt for an elusive criminal who will stop at nothing to destroy some of the world’s most precious treasures. Meanwhile, a surprise encounter leads a cash-strapped Red (James Spader) toward a new business opportunity, and Tom (Ryan Eggold) takes action to investigate the bones in the suitcase. Poorna Jagannathan guest stars.”

Beyond the Reddington storyline the part of this story that intrigues CarterMatt the most is the idea of Liz on a treasure hunt, because the idea of this seems incredibly exciting. Sure, they are really just looking to stop a criminal who, in turn, is trying to find and destroy treasures, but we’re considering it a treasure hunt nonetheless. This should be fun, especially if it leads to her getting even more face-time with the Task Force. We do want to keep exploring some of what the new Liz looks like when it comes to her relationships with her fellow FBI team members, and how she acts differently in the wake of knowing more in terms of Reddington’s status as her father.

Elsewhere, the Tom Keen story is a ticking time bomb. The closer that he gets to answers the more exciting it gets for us (and probably more maddening for Reddington), but it also becomes more dangerous for Tom. If only he was entering this story with the same amount of foresight that we have for him, maybe he would be a little more wary regarding the contents of this said suitcase. It’s already been established that this is something that could bring about his undoing later this season.

Judging from the promo below, signs are suggesting that this episode could be more emotional than most.
