Chicago PD exclusive preview: Antonio takes the lead on latest case

Chicago PD exclusive preview

Chicago PD season 5 episode 3, entitled “Promise,” is going to be airing on NBC Wednesday night, so what better way to prepare than an exclusive preview from us here at CarterMatt?

In the video below, you can see the foundation set for what is a challenging, gruesome case for the entire Intelligence team. Antonio is running point on a murder case that was handed over from homicide, one that could prove to be exhaustive and cover far more ground than anyone would first imagine. (This is, after all, Chicago PD — no case will be all that easy to solve!)

The Jane Doe is a Latina woman in the her mid-to-late twenties, and all signs point to her being a drug mule. According to Upton, it appears as though she was killed somewhere else other than where her body was found. Voight partners up Antonio with Burgess this time around, and that seems to surprise Olinksy, who refers to the various pairings of the Intelligence team as “musical chairs.”

Per the official NBC synopsis for the episode, be prepared to see this case eventually lead to “the grim world of meat processing, and the discovery that there may be a different motive behind her death.” In other words, there are going to be some surprise twists along the way as we approach the resolution.

If you are a Jon Seda fan this case should be right up your alley — this looks to be one of the most substantial storylines for him since he was brought back to the show from Chicago Justice at the start of the season. Putting Burgess with him ensures that she will get another substantial story for the second week in a row after being prominently featured in the Frank Toma case. With Seda returning and Tracy Spiridakos joining the cast full-time this season there are opportunities for the writers to play around with partnerships and explore new dynamics. That’s one of the great things about a show with this large of an episode order — the room is there for experimentation! We’ll see if anything from the Burgess / Antonio partnership influences some of the writing choices that come for the rest of the season.

This episode will air at 10:00 p.m. Eastern time Wednesday night on NBC.
