Chicago PD season 5 spoilers: Sleepy Hollow alum to play Matt Miller
Anyhow, TVLine reports that Zach Appelman of Sleepy Hollow fame is set to play Burgess’ new love Matt, a federal prosecutor who, like Kim, has to figure out a way to navigate this relationship while working a very intense job. Given their careers you would imagine that there would be tension here and there, and some of that could surface around the eighth episode of the season. The two parties have a great relationship outside of work, but what happens when that collides with their careers?
At the end of last season we saw Kim take some time away while helping her sister recover from a traumatic sexual assault; there were signs that she could potentially get back with Ruzek at one point but nothing ultimately materialized. We’ll see as the season progresses if that continues to be the case; we already know that Burgess is in a relationship with Matt given that the character was referenced already this season. We just haven’t seen him onscreen yet, which makes some sense given that we don’t often spend that much time with some of these characters at home. The majority of the time we see them at work, battling things out in Intelligence and doing their part to ensure justice for the wide array of different people who sorely need it.
Aside from her dating life Burgess may also now be dealing with some significant pain following the events of this past episode. Her old friend and colleague Frank Toma killed himself right in front of her (read our review here at CarterMatt for that episode) after getting in too deep into a secret terrorist investigation. She was able to clear his name and preserve his legacy, but going through something like this does stick with you no matter who you are. It’s difficult to say goodbye to someone you cared about so much and who had such a vital role in a certain part of your life.
