Can you really be all that shocked that The Blacklist season 5 episode 5 is going to try and surprise you at this point? This is a huge part of what the show does in general! As we get deeper into the show’s run, the big challenge at that point just becomes trying to find even more creative ways in which to do that. It’s pulled off many so far, but moving into this coming episode one of the big tests could be seeing precisely what happens when Liz finds herself actually working against a different branch of law-enforcement in the CIA. She doesn’t necessarily enter her new mission with that intention, but sometimes things happen when you’re working to try and stop crimes and keep bad people from doing rather-bad things.

The story in which you’re going to see here should be interesting for a wide array of reasons, but the run-in between the FBI and the CIA is going to be near the top of the list. The title for this episode (airing on October 25) is “Ilyas Surkov,” and you can read more news as to what to expect via NBC below:

“When Red (James Spader) provides exclusive intel on an international terrorist, it puts Liz (Megan Boone) and the Task Force on a collision course with a rival unit from the CIA. Meanwhile, Red and Hawkins (guest star Aida Turturro) lay the groundwork for their new business venture, and Tom (Ryan Eggold) goes undercover in search of information.”

Anytime that you take a look at the story for Tom Keen one thing enters your mind: trying to determine what is tied to the devastating events that we know are going to be coming up a little bit later this season. We know that he is the sort of character who tends to get himself in trouble, and this “trouble” this time around could lead to him dying. While we cannot say one way or another at present if this means that Ryan Eggold will be gone from the show, he will be in harm’s way so much more than he has ever been before.

As for the arrival of Hawkins, let’s just say that she looks to be a key component for at least part of the fall as we continue to see Reddington rebuild. He’s taken his time, but we have to figure that the more he starts to dip his feet, the more he will get engaged in his criminal operations the way that he once was.
