Chicago PD season 5 episode 4 spoilers: An Atwater case hits close to home

Chicago PD season 5 episode 4

When Chicago PD season 5 episode 4 entitled “Snitch” airs on NBC later this month, Atwater fans should celebrate. It’s going to be nice to see LaRoyce Hawkins have a focused story so early into the run, especially one that ties into either his past or those who remain close to him.

Judging from the synopsis below, we could also be seeing another interesting story for Ruzek that furthers along some of what we saw in the premiere with him acting tough towards a suspect.

“While investigating a drug-related homicide, Intelligence is stonewalled by the ‘no-snitch’ culture of the neighborhood. And Atwater (LaRoyce Hawkins) discovers a personal connection to the case. Meanwhile, the police’s own code of silence is put to the test when Upton (Tracy Spiridakos) is asked about Ruzek’s (Patrick John Flueger) rough altercation with a suspect. Also starring Jason Beghe, Jon Seda, Jesse Lee Soffer, Elias Koteas, Marina Squerciati and Amy Morton. Guest starring Mykelti Williamson, Monica Barbaro and Kylen Davis.”

With Ruzek, what we have seen now is a lack of willingness to change some of his style as a cop for the sake of ever-changing rules. He doesn’t seem to believe that he should have to change given that what he does produces results; yet, he may eventually need to do just that given the fact that it could eventually get him in trouble. Police reform is something that showrunner Rick Eid told CarterMatt would be a huge part of the season, and a big part of that is knowing what some of the public perception to you is going to be. Ruzek and the remainder of the force has to be aware of the fact that there are going to be people watching their every move and speculating about whether or not they are doing the right thing in any given situation.

This synopsis does also confirm that this is the episode bringing back Monica Barbaro and her character of Anna Valdez from Chicago Justice, which was canceled after only one season. While that show is no more One Chicago is doing a great job incorporating those characters. Antonio Dawson is now back with Intelligence while Peter Stone is going to have a significant arc over on Law & Order: SVU over the course of the season. There are clearly still some cool ways in which these characters are being used so it still feels like they are a part of the universe as opposed to being cut adrift just because their original show did not perform well in the numbers.
