Outlander season 3 episode 4: Hannah James sets up Geneva’s debut
In the post on Instagram below, you can see that the actress behind the Geneva role in Hannah James is prepared for her big episode in her own way — including any sort of potential backlash that goes along with it. She’s in a tough position. Even if she is brilliant in the role (we do think she’s great — you’ll read more about that in our review at 9:00 p.m. Eastern tonight), her character’s actions are not ones that fans of Outlander will be predisposed to like. She has the right attitude about it, though, and we’re excited for her to get some positive feedback both now (the episode is already online for those of you with the app) and after it airs tonight.
Luckily, we do think that James is going to be welcomed by a very supportive fandom. Just remember that Tobias Menzies didn’t exactly play a likable character in Black Jack Randall, but he found himself embraced and should be the talk of Emmy consideration for his two roles this season — even if his time on the show seems to be done now. All you have to do is separate the performer from the character sometimes.
As for whether or not you see Geneva beyond this episode, that’s a question for book readers first — though we would remind you that there’s already been one big change to the source material this year with Murtagh already.
Who is Hannah James?
She’s a relative newcomer, whose major TV credit before Outlander comes via the final season of Mercy Street over on PBS. This is her most high-profile role to date, and she is a British-American actress whose roots are mostly in Virginia.

Uh.. it is so tempting to read the whole article but after the words that whoever read the books already knows about the significance of Geneva’s character. I just stopped reading right there.
I haven’t read the books and I am super excited to see what’s coming next. I’m super oblivious and I like it.
