The latest Agents of SHIELD season 5 poster is now online via ABC, and the network is not interested in giving that much away. That shouldn’t come as much of a sever shock to anyone given their track record.
What may be rather interesting to many people out there, meanwhile, is what the poster hints at: Outer space. This is where Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) seemed to be at the end of the season, and there are questions aplenty about this after the fact. For example, how in the world did he get there, and what is the ultimate purpose of him being off of Earth? Is this tied to Inhumans in any way?
Anyone who watches Agents of SHIELD with any regularity likely knows very well at this point that the show loves to live in the midst of a heavy veil of secrecy, and this is no exception to that rule. We wonder if the remainder of the TAC could somehow be up there in space as well, and if they are what that could ultimately mean in terms of the rest of the story within the first few episodes. (This is almost the American Horror Story: Roanoke of promotional strategies for the show so far.)
How secretive are the Agents of SHIELD folks being? Well, they aren’t even confirming a premiere date beyond just “winter.” Maybe that means late April after the end of Inhumans, or maybe this means December or January. The premiere date for the new season really doesn’t matter all that much provided that the show finds a way to get good ratings. If they get the budget to a reasonable place and draw similar numbers to last year, who knows? Maybe we’re going to see the show perform very well on Friday nights and it ends up becoming a part of a lineup there for many years to come. We can only hope, right?
For the record, we don’t think that we’re going to see the network keep things a secret for all that long — at some point during the run of Inhumans, we’re predicting already that there will be some more footage from the show highlighted there.
One of the only other things that is known about the show at the moment is that we’re going to be seeing more of Nick Blood as Lance Hunter, and we’re absolutely excited to see what he brings to the table there. (We still wish that we’d get a chance to see Adrianne Palicki again as Bobbi Morse, but she’s going to be rather busy courtesy of The Orville.)
