Supergirl season 3 episode 1 spoilers: Kara’s mindset; a Sanvers secret
Supergirl season 3 episode 1 synopsis – “Kara (Melissa Benoist) deals with the loss of Mon-El (Chris Wood) by focusing all her energy on being Supergirl and the mysterious new threat against National City. Alex (Chyler Leigh) confesses a secret to Maggie (guest star Floriana Lima) about their impending nuptials. A citizen of National City has a mysterious connection to Kara, and Lena (Katie McGrath) makes a bold move.”
What’s the secret between Alex and Maggie? It’s an interesting question, but the good news is that the synopsis does seem to indicate that the two may actually be engaged! They didn’t waste much time getting their relationship to this place, and hopefully the show gives them a lot to do within the first stretch of the season. Given that Lima’s long-term status on the show is unclear with her now being a series regular, we just hope that we get her for however long the show can possibly hold on to her before she goes off elsewhere.
Meanwhile, the storyline for Kara suggests that she’s going to really ignore the part of her who has enjoyed being Kara Danvers in the past, and is instead concentrating more of her time and energy on being the hero for National City. She’s a little more numb to emotion with Mon-El gone, but given that Wood is still a series regular, there is no reason to think that he’s going to be out of the picture for the show forever. He will likely return, but probably with some more problems at that point.
Meanwhile, the “citizen of National City” with a connection to Kara is most likely Odette Annable’s Samantha, a character that eventually become the Big Bad Reign who terrorizes the city and potentially threatens to tear apart this entire planet completely. We know that the show is treating the story as a journey through her origins, and we’re very curious to see how that develops over time. Maybe by around the end of the winter finale we’ll have more of an opportunity to see her dangerous machinations in motion.
