Once Upon a Time season 7 spoilers: Rebecca Mader returning as Zelena
According to a new report that is coming in right now via TVLine, the actress will be back on the ABC series for multiple episodes as the character, who is of course otherwise known as the Wicked Witch. Whether or not she is still the Wicked Witch remains to be seen. It’s always possible that Zelena was impacted by the same curse that hit Hyperion Heights, and when we meet her she’ll be a part of the show in a very different way. No matter how she’s integrated, we’re just happy to see the former series regular back. Zelena had some great moments on the show, and with Lana Parrilla still a regular you’ve got some potential to see some great and super-dramatic moments between the two sisters.
In speaking out more to the aforementioned publication about her return and her role, Mader had the following to say:
“I am beyond thrilled to be returning to make magic with my beloved Once Upon a Time family … I’m excited for this next chapter.”
While Once Upon a Time underwent a pretty massive cast overhaul following the end of season 6, it does feel like, in one form or another, many of the former cast members are still finding ways to come back. Jared Gilmore will return at the start of the new season as Henry, and in the second episode you will get a chance to see Jennifer Morrison make a return appearance as Emma. Emilie de Ravin is going to be bringing Belle back for at least one episode, and now we’ve also got this good news now regarding Mader. Ginnifer Goodwin and Josh Dallas are the two we haven’t heard much about in terms of a return, but this doesn’t necessarily mean that they are gone for good from the franchise. There could still be a way for Snow White and Prince Charming to re-enter the series down the road.
The news of Rebecca Mader returning basically serves as a reminder that the Once Upon a Time cast does love this show and being a part of it, given that they are having to travel all the way up to Vancouver to film the show and it sometimes requires long hours. They make it work! The new season is obviously going to feel very much different, but the more that we’re hearing about it, the more we also think that there will be some degrees of familiarity to most of what we get a chance to see.
