Will a Strike season 3 (Career of Evil) happen on BBC One?

Strike season 3

Following the end of The Silkworm today, is it possible that a Strike season 3 will be coming up in the future on BBC One?

We have a feeling that, at the moment, the interest in getting more of this great series is rather high — and for good reason! We always think that there is an insatiable thirst to get more great British crime drama, and with Strike, you’ve got one of the better ones out there. The characters are strong, the mysteries intricate, and the author at the center of it all in Robert Galbraith a.k.a. J.K. Rowling knows better than anyone how to develop character relationships. We do feel as though this series could continue to air for however long she would like to see it happen; so far the ratings have been solid, and the critical acclaim is there.

Now, let’s turn to those Strike season 3 prospects. Technically, there are more new episodes on the way already! According to a report coming in right now via the Radio Times, the third Strike adaptation in Strike: Career of Evil has already filmed, and is going to air in the new year. This is another great mystery, and opportunity to dive more into some of these characters and what makes them tick.

So why wait to the new year now? One of the reasons could be to clear up the schedule for other fall programming, and another reason could be to reap the rewards of winter television ratings. January and February are not often the time in which many people want to be out watching television. With that in mind, we do presume that there are going to be some people out there who are eager to sit down and watch Strike even if they haven’t seen the other two miniseries before. This is a show that does have a little bit of evergreen value in that in order to watch one mystery, you don’t necessarily have to have seen the others.

As for beyond Career of Evil, we’ll just have to wait and see what happens. For now, we remain very much optimistic about the future of the franchise! We know that there are only three Strike books out there right now, but Rowling is working on more and it doesn’t appear as though she has any real intention of slowing down with this series anytime soon. For us at CarterMatt, that news basically amounts to some celebration.

Are you looking forward to watching Strike season 3?
