Grey’s Anatomy season 14 spoilers: Don’t expect more Leah Murphy

Leah Murphy

Where will Dr. Leah Murphy be on Grey’s Anatomy season 14? That is certainly one of the questions of the hour.

Unfortunately, a new report from TVLine states that Tessa Ferrer, who plays the character, is not around set at the moment and there are no immediate plans for to be a part of the upcoming batch of episodes. This would be the second familiar face gone from the Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital when the show premieres on ABC; if you recall, it’s already been confirmed that you will not be seeing more of Eliza Minnick, either. (This is clearly not a good time to be a former love interest of Dr. Arizona Robbins — Sara Ramirez isn’t planning a return in the near future, either.)

Ferrer’s return to the show (she previously took part in another stint years back) came this past fall, but we don’t really think that Shonda Rhimes and the producing team did all that much with the character. If you can’t make a laundry list of three or four things that the character did to shake up the world in a given season, it’s easy to say that there wasn’t enough done in order to support them. Leah Murphy is a character who could’ve had so much more of an impact than she did, and alas, we’re not going to get all that great of an opportunity to see it … at least for now. One of the things that we’ve come to know very much with a show like Grey’s Anatomy is that you should never say never when it comes to certain cast members returning to the show, given that there are always going to be chances to bring them back in the future … provided of course that they’re still breathing. (We’re not intending to bring back Ghost Denny memories here, people!)

Grey’s Anatomy does have some new additions who are going to be a part of the show, at least for the immediate future, and that should help to shake things up a little bit. For example, we’re going to be getting a chance to have Timeless star Abigail Spencer stopping by as the new version of Megan Hunt. (Bridget Regan played the part previously.) Meanwhile, you will also be meeting Andrew DeLuca’s sister for the first time, and she will be bringing with her a style of medicine that is very much different from what is already at the Grey Sloan Memorial. You’ll meet these two characters fairly early on in the new season, and we’ll see what happens from there given that we firmly expect that some more newcomers are going to be stopping back.

What do you think about losing Dr. Leah Murphy right now?

Be sure to share some more of your thoughts on that subject below! Meanwhile, you can also head over to the link here if you missed our feature-piece yesterday detailing some of what you could expect for the Grey’s Anatomy season 14 premiere. (Photo: ABC.)
