Dean Unglert – Bachelor campaign dashed on Bachelor in Paradise
Remember how there were people saying a few weeks ago that Dean Unglert really should be the next star of The Bachelor? Well, those hopes are now for the most part dust in the wind.
Over the past two weeks, we’ve seen Dean’s popularity fall in really rapid fashion, largely because of the way that he’s handled one love triangle on Bachelor in Paradise with Danielle Lombard and Kristina Schulman. He was close to Kristina until Danielle arrived, and then he basically said something last night akin to “Kristina is perfect for me in almost every way, but Danielle’s really hot.” Ugh. This is clearly a great example of a guy who doesn’t know what he wants, and because he’s probably coming onto this show with a reality TV-created ego and goodwill following Rachel Lindsay’s season, he decided to try to play both relationships in a way that is super-distasteful for people at home.
After all of this, it’s pretty clear that almost nobody wants to see the guy as The Bachelor at any point in the future. It’s almost an interesting role-reversal here how the majority of time, we see people come on Bachelor in Paradise looking for some sort of redemption after their time on The Bachelor / The Bachelorette. With Dean, he may need some redemption after some time on this show — though we’re not sure he is going to get it on reality TV.
Ultimately, we should note here that Dean said even before the start of this season that he didn’t think he was ready to be the Bachelor, so he’s not actively campaigning for that role. Of course, the comments that he made at that time probably read a little bit differently to some now. Dean already knew at that point some of what happened in Paradise and how he was going to come across, so he probably knew that some of those vibes and positivity coming his way could be short-lived. He had a chance to dip out of consideration before Bachelor Nation turned on him — we’re not saying that he did that, but that opportunity was there for him just because of the way the show is structured.
The new star of The Bachelor will be announced later this summer, and despite everything that you may be hearing online about commitment problems or whatnot, we still think that Peter Kraus is going to get the gig and that much of the talk otherwise is a smokescreen. With a favorite this universally-considered, the show has to do something to divert attention in some other directions. They’ve certainly done that in the past. (As of right now, Wells Adams really seems to be the only other guy in major consideration for the role.)
If you missed it…
We have written a little bit more in depth about whether or not Wells could get the role coming up in the future! All you have to do to check that piece out is head over to the link here. (Photo: ABC.)
