American Ninja Warrior star Kacy Catanzaro signs WWE contract
According to TMZ, Catanzaro has signed a new contract with the WWE that comes after spending an extensive period of time training with the company. This means that she has a chance to eventually become one of their next superstars, and given her preexisting fame and big personality, we think that she’s got a good chance to be one of their next great heroes — or villains, depending on what the show decides to do with her. It’s not always easy to be a big star in the wrestling world, so she does still have a good bit of work to do.
What we do think that this hiring represents is a major path forward for many American Ninja Warrior alum looking to do something more beyond just being a part of this show. Obviously you can do other reality shows using some of your fame, but something like professional wrestling seems to be a good fit given that you do have some of the physical tools necessary. We could see some other athletic pursuits, or seeing some of them getting more into stunt-work or acting in big-budget movies. (It makes sense that Supergirl stuntwoman Jessie Graff is one of the other most-popular female stars in American Ninja Warrior history.)
For Ninja Warrior itself, anytime one of its stars lands a big gig is another demonstration of its credibility. It only benefits the show when some of its stars end up landing jobs in other places, and it makes it even more of an institution. It already is one of the top-rated shows on in the summer, and it does that with a fraction of the publicity of anything The Bachelorette / Bachelor in Paradise related over on ABC. We foresee the show lasting a long time, and for other stars to find their way through this and into some other avenues in the future.
