Teen Wolf season 6 may not be the end; reboot being considered

Teen Wolf season 6

Well, apparently Teen Wolf season 6 may not be the end of the MTV franchise as we know it — there are already talks over the future.

In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the network’s president Chris McCarthy did confirm that there are already some talks underway regarding how to bring this show back at some point down the road, even if it may not be for a few more years with a brand-new cast of characters:

“These characters and these stories have hit a peak … We are talking with [creator Jeff Davis] about how do we actually keep that franchise alive. And the beauty of the evolution of media is you can see the series going on through a series of podcasts and then see a resurrection of a new class in a couple years.”

Now, is this a good idea, even remotely so? We do have some further questions regarding that. Reviving shows doesn’t always go well, and there are many times when it absolutely is not needed. The biggest thing that you risk there is negating your original brand and somehow making it feel a little less special. No matter what new generation of characters you come up with, they are almost certainly going to be compared to the likes of Scott, Stiles, Lydia, and everyone else from the original show. We’d watch an episode of the new version in order to give it a proper chance, but it’s hard to be altogether excited about it.

If we were MTV, what we’d do is rather simple: Focus in on some of the elements from the original Teen Wolf series that fans really seemed to love the most, and then frame a new version of the show mostly around them. Give fans what they want without them knowing it, and in the end, insert some more creativity into their programming. We suppose that the title here got some fans in the door (after all, this is a reference to the Michael J. Fox movie), but beyond that, the success here is a little bit more about the show’s originality and what it did getting itself devoted fans. If you’ve done that once, you can do that again and Davis is an extremely talented guy.

The final season of Teen Wolf comes back on the air starting a week from Sunday, and you better believe that we will be around in order to better cover that further. That includes reviews, previews, and so much more as we near the end of the road and send off this super-entertaining show the proper way.
