Even though Mr. Robot season 3 may not be premiering on USA until fall, we already know there’s a lot to look forward to. This is a thought-provoking, cerebral show, and we know that there are no others out there like it.
Of course, one of the biggest questions with a show like this is simply one of perception and trust. Can we really believe in what we see when it comes to this show? It’s complicated, but one thing that we can believe with some confidence is that Elliot is going to survive what transpired at the end of season 2 … not that this is a surprise. Also, the third season is going to revolve in part around Rami Malek’s character trying to fight to get some of his power back.
Speaking in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, show creator/director Sam Esmail did his part in order to detail further some of what is coming next:
“Season 3 is about Elliot trying to bounce back and fight against the people who have been using him.”
Hopefully, this means that he’s not going to be in prison, or creating some sort of alternate construct where we’re led to believe that he is behind bars. In seeing the show be snubbed in many key categories for season 2, the biggest theory in understanding why is because this twist, while brilliant, was also jarring and made you question whether or not the entire process provided to be worthwhile. He’s a smart, brilliant man, but he put himself in such a position last season where he had to find a way to compartmentalize the madness around him.
One other thing that you can apparently expect to see over the course of the upcoming season is a far greater presence of Tyrell, who was suspected deal for much of season 2 before turning up near the end of the season:
“With Tyrell, we really don’t know much about his whereabouts or what happened to him … There’s a lot of that circular storytelling that we really delve into with his character this season.”
This is obviously exciting just because if there is one thing that Mr. Robot often excels in, it is telling a major comeback. There’s something great that comes from seeing people rise from the ashes in unexpected ways, and all signs point to us getting opportunities to watch this happen in a big way with Tyrell and Elliot. Even when they do have resources and assets, they’re still carrying the weight of the world on their shoulders. Even though this is a brilliant show, but one that doesn’t ever quite want you to grasp what it is doing every second of the day.
