The Originals season 5: Don’t expect a Paul Wesley cameo
To be fair, we don’t understand why we would see Stefan turn up on the vampire drama in the first place. Think back to the end of The Vampire Diaries, where the character sacrificed himself and moved on to the afterlife: “Peace,” as the show called it. His final scene with Ian Somerhalder a.k.a. the “hello, brother” moment, was all sorts of perfect. We love Stefan, but there’s no need for him to turn up in a flashback, a dream sequence, or any other way. Also, it’s not like he has a relationship with any Mikaelson strong in enough in order to justify his ghost or a flashback sequence of any kind.
Also worth noting? Wesley’s just not interested in showing up as an actor on the show. It’s no disrespect to it; as he tells TV Guide, he is just looking to take on different characters and opportunities after being a part of this world for so long:
“I don’t think so. I think Stefan has been laid to rest … I’m trying to sort of do the opposite of what I’ve being doing for eight years for the most part. I don’t think I’ll be doing a supernatural show anytime soon, that’s for sure. I’m trying to branch out and do different things.”
It’s hard to really blame Wesley for this thinking at all, given that he’s given so much and put his all into this performance. As a result of that, he deserves a chance to take on some other characters. We’d love to see in a comedy, or something else that is lighthearted and rather silly. (We’d actually love him to do a guest stint on either Jane the Virgin or Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.)
While presumably there are many Vampire Diaries characters who technically could appear on the spin-off given that they are still alive, Alaric and King’s Caroline really are the only ones that make some sense when you consider the story of the show. In particular, Caroline appeals to the Klaus fans, and we do think there was some intentionality when it comes to how her story following Stefan’s death was left somewhat open-ended, other than of course the fact that she and Alaric are now running the school in Mystic Falls, one that Hope is attending and one that Klaus donated some substantial money to.
