Poldark season 3 ratings give it Sunday win; The Voice Kids struggles
Sunday night’s new episode, one of the biggest ones of the season since it featured a very important death (read more here), ended up drawing in total 4.8 million viewers. That was enough in order for it to be the most-watched show on all of Sunday night. When it’s winning these sort of honors, it’s fairly clear that Poldark is not a show that is going anywhere in the future. It’s still enormously popular, and it helps that it has episodes with such dramatic moments as a character dying and another returning home after a long absence. (That’s the most we’ll say here for the sake of spoilers.)
This was not the most-watched episode of the season, but Poldark has not been able to take a win for the night for much of the summer. Much of that has been due to some stalwart shows like Antiques Roadshow and Countryfile, which fare very well as British TV institutions.
We are now more than halfway through the third Poldark season, which is a rather depressing thought — as is the fact that at the end of the upcoming on Sunday, we’ll be down to just three more for the rest of the season.
How did everything else fare?
Let’s start with giving some praise to The Loch, a show that we’ve referred to here and there as a sinking ship. Per Telly Mix, this show managed to bring in around 3.9 million viewers in total. That’s a fairly good improvement on the previous episode, and that’s enough to make you think that the show does have some momentum.
Meanwhile, ITV’s attempts to adapt The Voice Kids is not working all that well, with the latest one getting just 2.7 million viewers. We do still think that a singing show featuring kids was an odd choice to begin with, given that kids’ voices aren’t really developed yet and the flagship show is one deeply rooted with some flaws of its own — including that the artists never really find their way to having hit records after the fact.
Oh, and we should also note that Love Island continues to improve to some more all-time ratings highs. This past episode generated in total 2.14 million viewers, which is a small improvement from how the show fared previously. All you have to do is go on social media in order to know that this show is popular — it’s trending virtually all of the time.
