Sources confirm that Huertas, who played the part of Miguel over the first season, will be back as a series regular. The same goes for Breckenridge, who played the part of Sophie. Both of these characters had important roles to play, and it will be interesting to see how their stories develop.
The Miguel question – How did he go from being Jack’s longtime friend to Rebecca’s new love? This was a character in season 1 who was targeted with a lot of difficult criticism, mostly because of a decision that he made to love someone who had lost one of their other great loves. Much of the reaction to his relationship with Rebecca moving forward will depend heavily on timing.
Prior to this gig, Huertas was best known for his work as Javier Esposito on Castle, a show that we absolutely did cover extensively over the years.
As for Sophie – One of the big questions for her is what happens next between her and Kevin. She was one of his great loves, and she helped to unsettle what was a crazy choice in his romantic life in season 1.
Breckenridge is best known for playing Jessie on The Walking Dead; we wish we could say that characters met happier endings on this show consistently, but that’s clearly not the case. Just look at Jack or William as prime examples of that.
It goes without saying that getting a promotion for This Is Us is a career-changing opportunity since this is one of TV’s highest-rated network shows, and it is one that viewers have a deep emotional connection to. It took off last fall despite being a completely original show with a cast of famous-but-not-incredibly-famous people. In this modern-day age where people often refuse to watch anything with commercials, that’s incredible and it goes to show you further that shows that encourage community-building and watching as a family still have a place in the TV landscape.
