American Idol – Lionel Richie deal closer to reality
According to a new report coming in right now via TMZ, Richie did sit down recently in order to look at the possibility of becoming a judge on the upcoming season. The meeting lasted long enough for all parties involved to realize that it was serious, but there wasn’t much in the way of news one way or another regarding if it will end up turning into something more down the line. For the time being, we’re optimistic.
The main reason why nothing was officially signed seems to have to do with the journey for now to ensure that another on-screen personality in host Ryan Seacrest signs on the dotted line. Ryan seems close to securing a deal that will make him a pretty penny, and after that is done, negotiations can start to get done elsewhere. One thing that we do know is that this show desperately needs at this point to work on locking in their remaining talent, given the fact that they have auditions later this summer and one of the big appeals towards getting people to try out is them knowing exactly who it is that they’re trying out for. Otherwise, it may be a little bit of a harder sell.
Beyond Richie, one of the people we do hope is considered for a judging gig on the show is someone within the music industry itself, given that you do need those sort of qualified A&R people who know a thing or two about music behind the scenes. While they may not give you a lot of viewers right out of the gate, they offer credibility. This is something that the original show had with Simon Cowell, a judge who would be honest (at times brutally so), and tell you precisely whatever it was that he felt you needed.
