Nashville season 5 episode 16 spoilers: Maddie’s reveal; Scarlett’s pregnancy problem

Moving into Nashville season 5 episode 16, there are many priorities, with one of the biggest ones being Maddie’s social-media hate. The aftermath of her arrest has been severe, and it’s about to hit home so much more than she thought that it would. It’s one thing to be harassed by a stranger, but what’s going to happen when she realizes that one of the biggest instigators of the hate is someone staying under her family’s roof?

Even without seeing tonight’s season 5 episode 15, you know from previews that Liz created a meme mocking Maddie in the wake of her being arrested. Regardless of her intentions, sometimes the thing with internet bullying is that it often gets so far out of your control before there is anything that can be done to stop it. Hopefully, this upcoming episode is going to prove to be every bit as dramatic as we feel that it could be; someone’s going to have to realize that actions have consequences that are far more sweeping, and far more severe, than anyone first thought.

Nashville season 5 episode 16 synopsis – “Juliette spars with Avery over Hallie’s sound; Maddie discovers the truth about the origins of the bullying on social media; Scarlett’s pregnancy garners her some unexpected attention.”

One of the odd trends with this show, whether it be with Scarlett’s pregnancy, the Maddie arrest, or many other things over the years is the depiction of the media as power-hungry folks out to get a story at the expense of someone’s personal life. Maybe that is true to a certain extent, but what the show could explore more is avenues for some of these characters to effectively create more of their own media and establish a further narrative for themselves.

In the promo below, you actually get a diversion from some of the press drama, but not a reprieve from anything else given that the main push here is seeing some Hallie drama with Juliette, and then also realizing that Damien has a knack for getting what he wants. Even with him away, she’s still going to face some trouble.
