Nashville season 5 episode 15: The long-awaited Rachel Bilson debut
Thankfully, the wait is now over, and you will see Bilson coming on board the CMT series for the first time Thursday as Alyssa. What she brings to the series is important: A very different energy than anyone else. She could care less about country music, and brings an outsider perspective that the record company clearly needs. She’s not thinking about things in turns of songs she likes; instead, it’s about streamlining processes and finding way to generate more success and, in turn revenue. She’s not heartless per se, but when surrounded by people so passionate, her intentions could be easily misconstrued.
Also, it’s easy to understand why Alyssa’s presence could generate conflict. She will be coming to people who, at this point in their lives, are all collectively convinced that they know a thing or two about how to run their careers. There will be clashes that come with that, but in time, maybe they’ll see to use her as a resource or at least someone they can make a compromise with.
Here is the reality: Sometimes in the music business, you have to do things to please your label that you don’t want to do. You don’t end up having to say yes to every suggestion or demand, but there needs to be a push and pull. If you find a way to effectively generate that, you can make some incredible progress and get yourself to another level of fame. You just have to navigate through some of the understandable hurdles that are there in order to effectively make it happen.
If there is one character who could use a little advice when it comes to helping and advancing her career, it’s Maddie in the aftermath of the arrest. A public video is going to cause so many problems for her, even if her actions were really all about trying to help Clay.
