MasterChef season 8 episode 4 exclusive: The judges make an entrance!

It shouldn’t be a surprise to any MasterChef fan at this point, but Gordon Ramsay and the judges love to make a big entrance while out in the field! It adds a little more pizazz to the show, and it also probably makes people jealous. Why wouldn’t want to ride around in ATVs on the beach? We’re still waiting for when the judges come down via parachute carrying briefcases like some sort of super-spies. If the show keeps raising the game, it’ll happen in due time.

This big arrival is primarily setting up the upcoming team challenge, which is out in a familiar South California beach (we recognize that pier!). On the surface, this probably feels like a picturesque / ideal place to have a competition take place, but alas, we feel like it’ll be so much harder than you’d realize. If the sun really comes out, then you’ve got sunburn problems. Meanwhile, it can be super-windy and your food can blow all over the place. Add to that all of the water in the air, and there are several different things that the contestants should be thinking about.

So what is the nature of the challenge? That’s not clear just yet, but hopefully the judges in here are going to introduce a challenge that is dynamic and a little different from the standard team challenge. One of the things that this show has done really well at this point is figure out unique ways to shake up the format ever so slightly so that you’re not just watching the same thing that you’ve seen over the years. Last week, that came in the form of finding a way to add a redemption component to the first Mystery Box, which was incredibly smart since it also honed the focus down on a few contestants who we really got to know. Mark is gone (you can read our interview with him over here), but the other two still remain. We’ll see if they look at this challenge as a chance to bounce back.
