Riverdale season 2 spoilers: More news on Veronica’s father!

There are a number of exciting things to look forward on Riverdale season 2, but the presence of one Mark Consuelos as Veronica’s father Hiram Lodge is going to be a big part of it. He’s a very familiar actor taking on a very important role on this show, but like many other Riverdale parents, he has a tendency to be far more awful to those close to him than he really should be. This shouldn’t be too much of a surprise since he did just get out of jail.

When Hiram becomes a part of the universe in the fall, there will be many questions that come along with that. To get a further sense as to what some of these questions are, executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa said the following to Entertainment Weekly:

Hiram is a family man, he loves and treasures his wife and especially his daughter … But there’s no denying that we’ve built up someone who has very dark dealings and who has a criminal past. He’s not like the Serpents, who are a street-level gang. He’s operating at a much higher level and has tentacles everywhere. The questions will be: Is Hiram truly reformed? What does he want? How does Veronica figure into his plans? How will Archie figure into his plans?

The thing to remember here is that in between Jason Blossom and Jughead’s fathers, we’ve learned already that dads in this world can’t be trusted. Veronica should be aware of that from the moment he turns up. She has to be aware of potential schemes and dealings, but that is a hard thing to ask of a young person. This is her father, and he’s the sort of person that she wants to believe will protect her and not cause her any harm. Luckily, Veronica is a very smart woman and she has already had her suspicions about her father’s involvement in so many shady dealings in Riverdale. We think that while she loves her dad, she’s going to be keeping a close eye on him and will call him out on anything she thinks is wrong.

The other element to seeing Hiram coming to Riverdale is that Veronica’s mother has had a little romance blossoming between her and Archie’s dad. While that may not be happening at the moment. These two are still partners in Fred Andrew’s construction business, so we still expect tensions to be running high when Hiram enters the picture.
