The Walking Dead season 8: What’s with the Danai Gurira casting freakout?
The latest victim of this is none other than Michonne herself in actress Danai Gurira. Much of the conversation first began when reports came out that she was being cast in the upcoming Marvel’s The Avengers: Infinity War, and how this movie could mean curtains for one of the show’s most compelling characters (and for us one of the most compelling characters on television as a whole).
However, there are MANY reasons to take a step back before you go into a downward spiral that Michonne is dying just because she’s got a part in a movie.
1. There are DOZENS of people in Infinity War – This is a huge cast. With that, most of the supporting characters aren’t going to have some six-month shooting commitment. It’s possible that she could film all of her scenes on off days. Given that The Walking Dead often spends whole episodes on just two or three characters, it’s easy to imagine her having the time to do this.
2. The two projects film close to each other – As ComicBook.com reports, both are located within Georgia, and are not too far of a drive from one another (so long as traffic’s okay). As a result of that, even if she’s doing the projects concurrently there shouldn’t be much of a problem.
3. Michonne is wildly important to The Walking Dead – If you were to kill her off, could you imagine how some of the fans would react? It may be one of the biggest fan meltdowns in recent memory. It’s also one that isn’t needed right now since it doesn’t feel like her story is anywhere near complete.
Filming for The Walking Dead is going to continue throughout the summer, and hopefully Gurira is going to continue to have a chance to take part in both projects without something happening to her character of Michonne. She’s the big winner here, getting to take part in two of the biggest comic-book franchises in the world.
