America’s Got Talent: Singer Christian Guardino gets Howie Mandel Golden Buzzer
At one point tonight on America’s Got Talent, it appeared as though Howie Mandel had the entire audience was against him. After all, this was a man who buzzer an acapella group from the Air Force and called them “boring.” He had his work cut out for him when it came to finding a way to redeeming himself … hopefully, his golden buzzer act in singer Christian Guardino helped to turn things around.
Christian’s story coming onto the show was a powerful one, given that he went through a lot as a child, including vision loss that forced him to face a future as completely blind. Luckily, a procedure was able to turn this around for him — as someone who has some major vision issues of their own, it is nice to see someone out there telling their story and proving themselves to be all sorts of talented.
Also, that voice! “Who’s Loving You” is not an easy song to sing, but he nailed it and showed SO much more range than you would ever expect from a guy who is only 16 years and shouldn’t really have those pipes.
Obviously, you knew that Howie was going to use the Golden Buzzer — this was the final act of the night, and we hadn’t seen the buzzer yet. This show is not really surprising anyone these days when it comes to Golden Buzzers and the way they’re editing them. Not that this matters, given that these auditions are getting hundreds of millions of views on Facebook.
We also realize that there’s probably going to be plenty of people wondering why we’re getting so many singers get Golden Buzzers for the second straight year; personally, that doesn’t matter so much as that the people who get them truly deserve them. Christian did, and you could tell that he was really grateful for it. He’s had a little bit of fame before thanks to Showtime at the Apollo, but never like this.
One thing you especially have to remember here is that Howie’s got a great track record now when it comes to these! He’s had one Golden Buzzer in Drew Lynch go to the final two, and another in Grace VanderWaal win. He’s got a good eye for picking talent that could make it really far into the show!
