Outlander notes: Season 3 storms, sources, and a Sam Heughan co-star

Season 3 storms

In today’s edition of Outlander notes, there is a good bit of ground to cover, including some possible season 3 storms that may be coming in South Africa.

In a new post on Instagram (see the bottom of this article), executive producer Matthew B. Roberts beautifully sets up the scene in Cape Town. As many of you likely know out there already, Roberts is a brilliant photographer!

While it’s unclear just how much the weather will impact shooting coming up, the Outlander cast has done a number of night shoots as of late. Night shoots + rain certainly = hell on earth, and you have to love your job in able to properly handle that. Luckily, we do get the sense that many of these cast members do!

As reported recently, filming for season 3 is less than two weeks away from being wrapped, and then everyone gets some time to relax. As for how much, that varies depending on the person!

Speaking of which…

We reported recently that Sam Heughan was going to be getting a new movie project during the off-season in The Spy Who Dumped Me, the upcoming comedy he is starring in alongside Kate McKinnon and Mila Kunis. You can read a little bit more about his role and all of the espionage within over at the link here.

Today, what we’re happy to say (per Deadline) is that The Daily Show comedian and recent White House Correspondents’ Dinner perform Hasan Minhaj is also joining the film! He will be playing Topher Duffer, a CIA operative searching for Kunis and McKinnon’s characters after they go on the run. They’re only doing this in part because they learn that Heughan’s character, who has a romantic history with one of them, is actually a spy.

Sound fun? It should be! Filming will take place this summer leading to a premiere next year.

Finally, Diana Gabaldon’s inspiration

There is a wonder piece over at The Guardian that is worth reading if you are into the costumes from the show, her inspiration within the books, and Scottish history in general. It’s difficult to sum up here, but it’s absolutely worthwhile reading if Outlander in one form or another has gotten you entranced in all things Scotland.

As always, be sure to keep checking back for more Outlander news!
