Outlander star Sam Heughan circling Kate McKinnon, Mila Kunis comedy

Outlander star Sam Heughan

Does Outlander star Sam Heughan have a new project lined up for hiatus? At the moment, it absolutely seems that way.

Per a report from Deadline, the actor (who recently helped launch an outstanding charity campaign helping some in Scotland achieve their theatre dreams) is negotiating to star in a comedy entitled The Spy Who Dumped Me featuring Mila Kunis and Saturday Night Live star Kate McKinnon. This project would be done this summer over the hiatus, and wouldn’t interfere with any of his other commitments to the Starz show from a promotional or a filming standpoint. (This also works well for Kate as a hiatus project in between SNL seasons.)

One thing that may make juggling the schedule easier is that this film is coming via Lionsgate, and they acquired Starz at the end of last year. Who doesn’t love a little synergy?

This movie would star on July 6, 2018, and it revolves around McKinnon and Kunis as best friends who somehow find themselves in a dangerous international conspiracy. Why is that? Well, let’s just say that it involves one of the women learning that their recent boyfriend (Heughan) is actually a spy. Can’t you see this getting a little complicated?

The Spy Who Dumped Me is the first major Hollywood movie production to feature Heughan in a leading role, and it could be the first of many after the praise he’s received for playing Jamie Fraser on Outlander. What’s exciting beyond the opportunity itself is that this should be a chance for him to flex a different set of muscles. With the spy element here, there’s bound to be some action; meanwhile, having McKinnon and Kunis on board also likely ensures some humorous antics.

While Outlander nears the completion of its filming in South Africa, this is something fun to keep in mind for the summer. Meanwhile, the third season is going to premiere on Starz this September, and hopefully over the coming weeks / months some further information will be revealed.

What do you think about the concept of this film, and Sam getting brought on board for it? Be sure to share below!

Meanwhile, head over here in the event you do want to get some further news when it comes to Outlander. There’s another piece coming tomorrow, so be prepared to check that out. (Photo: Starz.)
