Fall TV Showdowns: MacGyver vs. Blindspot vs. Once Upon a Time

Fall TV Showdowns

With MacGyver, Blindspot, and Once Upon a Time all set to air Friday nights at 8:00 p.m. Eastern this fall, all of a sudden it’s looking more and more like this night will be a bloodbath. Remember when it was considered a TV graveyard? Well, you can now argue that this is a spot where there is some legitimate competition and some shows that could pull some fairly decent buzz for themselves.

So who is most likely to emerge from the rubble in one piece later this year? In the latest chapter of our Fall TV Showdowns series, breaking down the battle is the top priority.

MacGyver – What the crime drama brings to the table mostly begins with the status of Favorite. This is the show with a proven Friday night audience of the three, and given the sense of fun that comes from watching the show and following along with the community, it’s the one to be the most confident about.

Blindspot – While there is a risk of some crossover audience with MacGyver, it may not be as big of one as it firms seems given the two go about solving their cases in a very different way and have a different overall tone. While Blindspot is in many ways dark and mysterious, MacGyver is much lighter and stuffed full of funny moments. The big issue for Blindspot is mostly that it’s untested in this spot and the jury’s out on how it will air.

Once Upon a Time – Of the three shows, this is the one worth being the most worried about in this new timeslot, given that the ratings fell heavily last season with the show on Sunday night. Not only that, but they’re also losing a good percentage of the main cast. to go along with it. This all spells some trouble for the show, especially when it comes to maintaining the average set by Last Man Standing and Dr. Ken, who were actually canceled by ABC last month.

Who will win the timeslot? – Almost certainly MacGyver, but there is a small chance that Blindspot overtakes it if all of its season 2 viewers stick around and the show manage manages to take viewers away from the Lucas Till series.
