The Amazing Race 29 finale: Did Brooke & Scott or Tara & Joey win?

The Amazing Race episode 4 review

The Amazing Race 29 finale on Thursday night brought the three remaining teams on Brooke & Scott, Tara & Joey, and London & Logan to Chicago in order to determine which one of them was worthy of the million-dollar prize.

What was great about the setup of the finale was fairly clear: These three teams all brought with them an unpredictability, given that none of them were dominant over the season. Tara & Joey may have won multiple legs, but they were also almost eliminated at one point, as well.

The big surprise going into the end of the episode was just how out of it London & Logan were. Despite the two of them being very strong racers, they never could get over the hump this season. Therefore, the season effectively became a race between Brooke & Scott and Tara & Joey in order to determine which one of them would win. The race took the teams to Wrigley Field — and of course other landmarks of the Windy City. Still, the issue here is that when you’re at Wrigley, almost everything else starts to fade away.

Who emerged as the winner in the end? – This is certainly a surprise when you think about the start of the season and where the teams were! Brooke & Scott somehow managed to get things together enough so that they could win. It wasn’t always flashy or pretty — it was certainly dramatic — but they really managed to pull it together at the end of the season where it counted the most.

Granted, we’re sure that there are some people out there already charting out the parallel universe where Michael doesn’t help Brooke back in Tanzania, and she and Scott potentially get eliminated there. Would they have somehow survived? It’s possible in theory.

It’s hard to be upset with the end result, given that Brooke & Scott were one of the most intentionally and unintentionally funny winners of the show for quite some time. Tara & Joey and London & Logan would’ve also been fine champions, but Amazing Race seasons are often so much more defined by the entertainment along the way, the geography, and the tasks more so than the winners. It’s not like there are many people out there who reflect on the greatest racers in the way that people often do Survivor or Big Brother winners.
