Is Scandal new tonight on ABC? Chatter on Mellie’s Presidency
Heck, in some ways it’s easy to just be grateful for the fact that Scandal will be on in the fall at all, given the fact that this is a show that wasn’t around until earlier this year due to Kerry Washington’s pregnancy. The downside to this of course is the news that season 7 will be the final scene. It’s one that will be in part about change, given that so many people are going to find themselves in very different places than they were previously. One of these said people is none other than Bellamy Young’s character Mellie Grant. She’s now President! Don’t you figure that this is going to change things for her in a pretty epic way?
In speaking to The Hollywood Reporter recently, Young offered up some suggestions of what Mellie could be facing when she does end up getting a chance to take on this power:
“It’s interesting when something you wanted your whole life finally shows up. Who are you anymore without the identity of wanting it? Can you be the person you thought in your dreams you would be? This last chapter of trying to become president was formative for Mellie. She went through hell and had a very naïve notion of being president instead of being the president. Now that it’s a reality, I hope it will ground her in her power. She fluttered above power for years because so much of her opposition was ornamental and not functional. I hope she’ll allow herself to come from a place of truth and, if not integrity, strength and wisdom. But it will be interesting with Olivia having gone so dark to see how much friction there is between the two of them next year.”
Hopefully, Mellie will have had some opportunities to learn from some of Fitz’s highs and lows while in office, and do a better job figuring out a way to mitigate tough situations.
