Nashville season 5 trailer: A new set of highs and lows
The big theme for the second half of this season should be “recovery,” and that exists both in the micro and the macro sense. On the micro level, you have the story of Juliette, a woman still working to get her career back on track in the aftermath of so much trauma in her life. Sometimes, hearing the cheers and the adoration is a great thing to build someone’s confidence; yet, with that comes the pitfalls of fame. When Juliette hears some of this, you get the sense of almost everything hitting her at one time.
As for what else is coming up, this preview does a good job of introducing some of the new characters, with the biggest one being Rachel Bilson’s Alyssa, a tech guru who will be entering the show with a good bit to offer … provided that anyone in Nashville will be altogether interested. Beyond that, the role of sexuality in the city will be explored, as will some of its artistic folks struggling with homelessness.
Is Nashville taking on too much in the wake of Connie Britton’s exit with too many stories? This show is really good at juggling many storylines without getting the audience too lost in the process, so we aren’t worried about them taking on too much. Bring it on! Of course, with lots of stories also comes the possibility that there are some threads viewers want a focus on, but there isn’t enough time in an episode to do so.
