The Voice finale: About Jesse Larson original song ‘Woman’

Woman

Tonight, The Voice is allowing all of its final four artists a chance to do original songs — Jesse Larson especially has something to celebrate with his song “Woman.” Chris Stapleton is a co-writer on the track! Depending on how the show chooses to play this up over the course of the finale, this could be a huge asset to him. Stapleton is beloved in both the country genre and beyond for his ability to tell great stories and mold together musical styles; Larson is arguably similar in that he fits into so many different categories.

As for the song itself, the sample recording on iTunes showcases a little bit of potential. It’s one of the better original songs this season, and is enjoyable without knowing who’s involved in the track.

Could this help Jesse actually win the season? That may still be a difficult challenge for him to meet, just because of his status as a big-time underdog entering the finale. The expectation for a while was that Hunter Plake would make it to this stage of the season over him, but he got momentum late and was able to really run with that. He’s got a great voice, and with that he’s certainly not a guy you want to rule out. While Lauren Duski is probably the favorite entering the finale and has some great song choices to boot, there have been enough surprises on this show over the years where anything can feasibly happen. Even last season, many people expected Billy Gilman to win over Sundance Head. Much of it comes down to something as simple as iTunes sales or even the popularity of your coach. Jesse being the only remaining member of Team Adam should help him.

As for what else Jesse is performing tonight, he will be doing a duet with Adam set to the Prince track “Let’s go Crazy.” Musically, this should be both really fun and a great celebration of Prince; it also happens to be one of two Prince numbers in the finale. Jesse will also be performing solo a cover of “Takin’ it to the Streets,” a great Doobie Brothers song but not necessarily one that could sell well on iTunes, which tends to favor either ballads or reasonably modern hits.
