The Flash season 3 episode 22 review: Did Savitar kill Iris West?

The Flash season 3 episode 22 review

The Flash season 3 episode 22 on Tuesday night brought us “Infantino Street,” an episode that was a celebration of the show if there ever was one. There was King Shark, Captain Cold, a heist, and some sharp writing that came about when Barry realized that he couldn’t use his powers to get what he wanted at ARGUS.

What was that? A rare piece of Dominator tech that would fuel the Speed Force Bazooka, the one thing that could take down Savitar once and for all. In order to do that, though, he needed a little bit of help: This is why he went back to the first season of Legends of Tomorrow in order to extract Captain Cold from the timeline. This was Leonard Snart at his most benevolent, and was largely helpful to Barry in his attempts to get precisely what he wanted.

Here’s the good news: The two managed to get the technology they so desired. The bad news? Cold was trapped inside! In order to both save him and the entire ending to Legends of Tomorrow season 1, he rescued him. Then, there was another problem: Lyla. She was resistant to give him the tech at first, but eventually, she relented knowing that Barry would do the same thing for Diggle if it was his life on the line.

After Snart was brought back to his own timeline, there was a lovely callback to his end on Legends of Tomorrow with “no strings on me.” Then, As Barry returned back to his time, there was a problem: Savitar disguised himself as Barry and figured out where Iris was hiding. Despite everything that the team had done so far this season, it hadn’t changed the course of history.

The quest to save Iris

Barry knew the location: Infantino Street. Within the final ten episodes, there was less than an hour to go until Iris’ death. It all became a journey to get ready for the journey ahead. H.R. doubted himself, but he received enough encouragement to understand his value more to the team. Cisco and Barry were the two going out in the field after Kid Flash failed to stop Savitar from taking Iris earlier in the episode. The tension could be cut here with a knife.

Cisco took off in order to face Killer Frost in the woods — this was the battle that he’d long seen in some of his vibes, and it was going to be almost impossible given that it could mean having to kill her.

As for Barry, he invested almost everything in the Speed Force bazooka. Unfortunately, it didn’t work. The episode wrapped with Barry running to save Iris’ life. Is she gone? It seems that way. Devastating. Heartbreaking.

Remember, this is a show where people CAN come back.

Final Verdict

While there’s still an argument to be made that The Flash should’ve done the Savitar reveal earlier in the season, it’s hard to argue against this episode as anything other than fantastic. Wentworth Miller owns the role of Captain Cold, and this was a lovely end to his story — if it is the end. Beyond that, there was significant, devastating movement as the finale for the show nears. Is Iris really gone? Time will tell. Grade: A-.
