NCIS season 14 finale spoilers: How far will Gibbs go? (promo)
When you think about those episodes through the lens of where we are now on NCIS proper, this finale may feel almost small or muted in comparison. Yet, that’s part of the plan in so many ways given that the network is opting for a far more secretive approach. This episode, entitled “Rendezvous,” doesn’t superficially connect to some other episodes in the season as the other two shows do. Nonetheless, it feels like the potential is ripe for there to be all sorts of tremendous drama.
Over the course of the hour, Gibbs will be leading a mission to another country in order to look for a child kidnapped by rival terrorists. Why does this child matter so much? It’s connected to the father’s efforts being a hero to the American people. It’s a rescue mission, but it is one that will become so much more than anyone predicts. With the help of McGee and Torres out in the field, Gibbs will be forced to make incredibly difficult decisions that could alter both his life and the lives of so many others.
In the end, the odds of this ending in a cliffhanger are fairly high. Given that there is less cast uncertainty following this season than others, this enables the writers to take some bigger risks coming out of the season. NCIS also could use a little bit of buzz given that the ratings have decline steadily throughout the year, and it needs a few moments to get people talking similar to what NCIS: Los Angeles did over this past weekend. (Hopefully, it won’t be anywhere near as tragic in this instance.)
