Is Agents of SHIELD renewed for a fifth season? There’s been a spirit of optimism in the air for the past week or two, and signs point to good news.
According to visual effects supervisor Mark Kolpack on Twitter, the series is picked up for a fifth season. It is not confirmed at present, but consider this your first sign of positive news. Why post this if the show is canceled? (Update: The show is officially renewed now! Clap and celebrate!)
Despite ratings woes, Agents of SHIELD season 5 did post improvement during the spring portion of season 4. It stays consistent in DVR ratings, scores big internationally, and is a part of an enormous Marvel Cinematic Universe empire where one project bleeds over to another. Beyond all of this, there’s also a fantastic deal at place over at Netflix that pays out the show a hefty amount of money for every single episode.
Beyond this, the quality of the storytelling increased exponentially. One episode remains for season 4, and it looks as though a full-scale showdown is nigh between SHIELD and Aida, the ever-evolving and now-human super-villain as played by Mallory Jansen.
There remains more details to be revealed, including the potential episode order for season 5 and how its schedule will be in the context of Inhumans coming on the air this fall. It’s an intriguing subject of conversation, as is whatever showrunner Maurissa Tancharoen and the writers will create in the context of all of the excellent stuff seen so far through season 4. Fingers crossed for more Ghost Rider, more Coulson awesomeness, and for some surprises that are impossible to project now.
Also, fingers crossed for a way to provide further promotion so that Agents of SHIELD can continue to grow and develop into more of a hit for season 5. It may be too early to project a season 6, but speculating over the possibilities is a joy.
