Deadpool to star in FXX animated series; should Ryan Reynolds voice him?

Deadpool

If you love Deadpool, this has to be music to your ears: The foul-mouthed comic-book character is getting his own FXX animated series!

Today, the network confirmed that an upcoming ten-episode series is coming; as if that wasn’t interesting enough, Atlanta star Donald Glover and Stephen Glover are going to serve as the showrunners. As for how Donald has time for this in between his own show and being in the new Young Han Solo movie, that’s a good question. Maybe time management is a big superpower in its own right.

This new show is set to be a co-production between Marvel Television, FX Productions, and ABC Signature Studios, with the latter being interesting given that ABC is one of the other Marvel centerpieces on television. To date, Fox and FX have dabbled more in the X-Men universe while ABC has hold of the MCU. We wish we could say that this would be Deadpool bridging the gap into that, but it’s a little early to say anything of the sort.

In a statement confirming the news, FX Networks and FX Productions president of Original Programming Nick Grad had the following to say:

“Donald Glover is an incredibly gifted and versatile artist who’ll bring the untitled Marvel’s Deadpool series to life with the same intense, singular vision as his breakout hit Atlanta … With the success of Legion, we’re looking forward to again partnering with Marvel Television to create a series that is bold, striking and entirely original.”

As for whether or not the show can find a way to get the current movie Deadpool in Ryan Reynolds on board, that remains to be seen — we’d love it, but there may be a plan to have this be a separate Deadpool in his own universe different from anything that is happening in the motion picture world. It is interesting that this series comes at a time when Reynolds and many others are hard at work making a Deadpool 2 movie into a thing after the first film receiving some surprising attention over at the Golden Globes.

To date, Reynolds hasn’t commented on the new series — one way or another, we’re excited to see it.
