NCIS season 14 episode 23: A McGee – Delilah surprise!
We imagined that there would be a McGee – Delilah surprise on NCIS season 14 episode 23 Tuesday night, but we didn’t think that it was going to play out in any way like this.
What did we learn over the course of the hour? Well, it’s rather simple: Delilah was not dying, which absolutely was the concern of us and so many others when we first saw promotional material for the episode. Instead, she’s pregnant! The reaction to this news by McGee may very well be one of the greatest things that we’ve seen over the course of the whole season — it means that he’s getting multiple doses of happiness at once.
In general, it’s always easy to celebrate such personal life revelations within the world of this show, with the primary reason for that being that we’ve seen the show on the air for so long! With such a robust backlog of relationships and characters, one of the reasons why we root for Tim is because we’ve seen him go through highs and lows.
Also, kudos to the NCIS writers for giving him a partner who is not only an equal, but at the same time also someone who can be a big player in the show without being a series regular. It proves that people in crime procedurals can have significant others who don’t work at the same place, which is certainly much more realistic and a reflection of real life.
Now that McGee and Delilah are married and expecting, they have a lot more to look forward to in terms of their life and their future. Of course, the thing that you do have to wonder with that is if this makes McGee or Delilah any more tentative in their jobs given that they have so much more to fight for. The stakes are certainly a whole lot higher than they’ve ever been before for them … and we know that going into the finale, we know that McGee is going to have much more on his plate than ever before as he and Gibbs both have some key decisions to make.
