Supergirl season 2 spoilers: Will Rhea turn Lena Luthor?

Lena Luthor

So far on Supergirl season 2, Lena Luthor’s been a force for good despite suggestions otherwise … but could that change? At the end of this past episode, the show carved out a suggestion that such an idea is possible thanks to Rhea turning up at her door. We know that Teri Hatcher’s character is the Big Bad of the season, and she may be looking for an ally in the midst of everything that is going at the moment with her son Mon-El. She wants revenge, and she doesn’t seem to care how she goes about getting it.

In speaking about what some of Rhea’s plans could be for Lena now, here is what executive producer Andrew Kreisberg had to say to Entertainment Weekly:

“What’s interesting about it is Rhea has got her master plan and she obviously does not come in peace … But what’s interesting to us as writers, and what I think Teri and Katie [McGrath] do so beautifully in their story line together, is Lena’s lost her father, she’s lost her brother, now she’s lost Jack. She’s desperate for a mother to come along and help her, protect her, and take care of her; obviously, Lillian is not that person. Then along comes Rhea, who is offering to be this guide, this mentor, and this supporter, and somebody who is truly proud of Lena and truly cares about her. Lena is uniquely vulnerable to what Rhea is offering.”

The question we wonder about at the moment is strictly whether or not Rhea is aware of everything that has been going on when it comes to Lena’s personal life. Does she have a bug on her or something? Is she reading up in the National City tabloids? Maybe she just wants a powerful woman on her side and she has at least figured out that there is a connection between her and Supergirl that she can try to exploit; or, maybe she figures that since Lena is a Luthor, that makes it easy enough to go to her and try to exploit her.

One way or another, we’re going to have a unique opportunity to see much of this story explored further when the next new episode of Supergirl airs on The CW Monday night. We hope that Lena stays on Team Kara, mostly because it seems to predictable at this point that she’d wander over to the dark side. Therefore, we don’t want to see it happen!
