Is SNL new tonight? Revisiting Aziz Ansari – Donald Trump supporter monologue

Is SNL

Is SNL new tonight on NBC? We’ve got the answer for that below! Also, we’re talking a little bit about Aziz Ansari and Donald Trump.

Let’s get the bad news out of the way — there’s no new episode tonight. This is the last night presumably of the season where there will be a repeat on the air, but we do put an asterisk on this given that there is the possibility for another writers’ strike coming down the road. Let’s hope that everything gets resolved, and that we get a chance to see some more hilarious stuff in the coming weeks.

In the event that you haven’t heard just yet, the May 6 episode of the show is hosted by Chris Pine. Following that installment, you’re also going to have a chance to see one hosted by Melissa McCarthy on May 13 and then Dwayne Johnson on May 20. That is the big finale, which is where you’re going to have a chance to see the series take a bow after a heck of a fantastic season, one chock full of comedy.

Tonight, NBC is repeating the Aziz Ansari episode airing earlier this season, which is one to check out even if you saw it when it first aired earlier this year. This was a very strong installment, but it also happens to be one of the few with the best part of the show was the monologue. Part of that is simply because you’ve got a brilliant writer / comedian as the host, and he completely owned and commanded the stage the entire time that he was up there. It was hilarious, but also insightful and respectful of Donald Trump supporters in a way that you would not expect. He shows opposition to the man they voted for, but also concedes that many of them may have had different reasons for casting the vote in this direction.

We know that SNL really can’t do these sort of sermon-esque monologues every time since not every performer is frankly built for them. Yet, it’s almost with that in mind that they are quite a treat when we do get them given that it offers us a chance to really carve out some great insight from a great voice about a moment of crisis or a message they want to get across.

We hope Aziz hosts again — and soon. The monologue feels as relevant as it was the first time.

While you wait for new episodes…

One suggest that we would offer is that you visit the link here, since that offers you an opportunity to see other video highlights, including a really funny video featuring Leslie Jones on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. (Photo: NBC.)
