Last Week Tonight with John Oliver talks Ivanka Trump, Jared Kushner

Following this past edition of Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, we saw a French election that had a result, at least for the first round, which the host couldn’t have been that satisfied with. We just learned a great deal about Le Pen, with one of the big things we learned being that she is not the sort of person who most Americans should want anything to do with.

So how did the host follow that up tonight? We know that he can be very much unpredictable, so with that, it wasn’t much of a shock to see him kick off a segment that veered back from international affairs all the way to the White House. Specifically, he talked about two people in Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner, a pair of people who have an important role with Trump at the White House. They are both very intelligent, but should they be viewed in such an idealistic way. While they are admired by many, should they be? Is Ivanka just better significantly at public speaking?

Oliver started the majority of her segment by talking about Ivanka and her knack at either avoiding questions or not saying all that much at all. Also, he took a further look about how little influence that Ivanka does actually have when it comes to her father at the White House. While she may claim to have different views than her father, most of those viewers are not actually being reinforced.

As for Kushner, what Oliver did was try to show that despite whatever was said by him in the press or by Trump, there was no way that he was able to do everything in which he was assigned to do. Even if he was perfect, he wouldn’t be able to do all of this. Then, Oliver went through and try to discredit some of Kushner’s various achievements in the business world.

Oliver did give Jared a little bit of praise here and there, but at the same time, he pointed out several different things that Jared is being overrated for in terms of some of his actual accomplishments.

Overall, this was another very funny segment, though we would say that Oliver was a little more effective in taking down Ivanka than Jared.
